Ted Bob in a Mario Costume

Post by jayenkai »

Image
Ted Bob and his Hens return, in a remake of a game originally made just a couple of months ago.

During my quest to make 12 Games of Xmas, I created a silly little game with Three French Hens.
Ted Bob had to hop onto the hens, to pop out their eggs, then collect them, whilst staying airborne to collect super combo points.

This is a lovely remake, but since it's currently MARch 2010 (MAR10) it's been given a wonderfully Mario styled makeover.

How lovely!

It's even got a 2 player mode, if there's anyone else around to play it!

You can grab it here for Windows or here for Linux.

(The debug stuff still pops up when you change resolutions.. I tweaked the skeleton file, but forgot to update the in-progress one! d'oh! Hit F12 to get rid of it!)

Btw, we wished you HB >>>HERE<<< (scroll up a bit), but you werent there to answer. Now you dont have an excuse, you know we have an inn here! :D

Ive found original Three Hens browsing Socoder and found screenshot showing completely black background (space?). Looks like a fine makeover.

Btw2, the Socoder archive page shows 20 pages of games. You really did them all? Ive always thought you had made about 20 games, not 20 pages of games. Dang it, you should create Great Collection someday, I wonder if size of all your games exceeds CD size already.

Game

Indeed, quite a nice improvement, and some much needed additional playability.
Still a nice simple game, though, and that's probably what makes it so playable!

Sorry, I got logged out the other day with a "Password Expired" message, and couldn't be bothered redoing it all.. As a result, I've not been round, and hadn't noticed any HB messages.
But thanks everyone.

*sigh* I'm old!!
30.
nngh...

And yes, the "Jayenkai Archive" is literally just that. A megaton archive of just me.
Sometimes I look back at the huge archive, and wonder exactly how I've managed it.
Then I remember.. "Oh yeah, I've got nothing else to do!".. and carry on making more.
I'm 30, so having 180+ games is.. what.. 5 a year? 9 if you start at age 10, 12 if you cut it in half.. 15 years, 12 games a year...
It's not actually a lot when you think about it.

Hopefully, though, there's an increase in quality over time ;)

Currently the entire bunch is still less than the size of a CD. (I actually chatted about this, earlier today).
The "Complete" archive currently just about hits the 300Mb mark (counting today's addition) and that includes all the zip files, along with all the screenshots from the Archive, too.
For 180+ games, I think that's quite a nice little filesize. I've always been wary of having stupidly oversized games, and I'm glad I stuck to my guns.

Oh, and I already did a "JNK15 : 15 game megapack", but that's already insanely out of date, since November!! I've made some cracking games, lately!

Skullpogo which was also suggested on this site has a somewhat similar gameplay. I am not the biggest fan of this type of game, but I will take my hat off for the Mar10 idea! Keep them coming. :)

MAR10 was a once in a lifetime chance. The date was perfect, and it all fit snuggly.
It's a shame we're not heading into Sontember 201C any time soon, 'cos that would be fun to try!

Well as far as I know you never let a tiny thing like a calendar spoil your fun... Except, I guess, when you miss a game a week deadline....(come to think of it...)

Normally I'm a big fan of jayenkai's games, but this one is certainly not his best work. The basic concept isn't bad, but I think there isn't enough variety in gameplay and not enough surprising elements to play this game for more than a few minutes. You have to be lucky to catch the right bonusses and you will get a high score and if you have bad luck or miss an important jump you will end up with a very low one.

I started this one after the silly-test-game that I'd done during the 12 Games of Xmas (that's this one!) and I figured it'd be nice to expand it.
...
Then, like a lot of my "Oooh, I'll add to this" ideas, it kinda died horribly when I realised I had no ideas to add to it!

It's a better version than the first one, though, so it doesn't score as badly as Centipong 2 did! Geeze, that one turned out bad!! I really disliked that one!!
