Don't mind my unorthodox post, it's just that I find list-only posts rather stale.

I tend to follow various types of music, depending on the moods I'm in and the time that has passed since I last listened to a particular group. Representatives from the various genres I like are as follows: Ray Charles stands in for the blues, NWA takes care of the rap department, JS Bach nearly monopolises the classical music section, and Ennio Morricone wins the soundtrack genre by landslide. Recently, I've started to open up to rock, namely Dire Straits, and Irish folk and contemporary music (The Pogues + Dropkick Murphys).

Dead Prez, Grandmaster Flash, U2 and Michael Jackson get honourable mentions =D

The list was just a starting point so you can chat about music anyway you want :D

As you may find lists stale, but I find multiple threads such as whats your fave genre, do you like pop music?, do you like rock or metal? to be annoying and just wanted there to be no excuse to have all those threads, when onlt one is needed :D

And I must agree that Dire Straits are great :D

Someone mentioned Knopfler... Knopfler belongs to a narrow group of musicians who are like wine - the older the better. To name only the few - Gary Moore, Bill Wyman, Nick Cave. I dont say Dire Straits period is not worth mentioning - some DS songs are evergreens, especially from the first album. But when Ive heard Knopfler's solo album "Ragpicker's Dream" I fell in love with it. This is amazing how this man can create 12 different songs playing almost the same tunes all the time. Each song has its own melody and tempo and its own unique beauty. I dont remember any DS album with such great set of pieces.

And Usul, Police drummer was Stewart Copeland. ^_^

Ok, now I'll just throw in some more bands, even I came to the decision that that list thingy's not that good...
I have to mention Simon & Garfunkel, great songs.
And Queen, to me personally, the most important band in my life
And I'll just re-ask a question I already asked in the oldgames-forum.

What is the most impressive song cover for you?
I'm talking about impression, not about the best or the worst, but the most impressive one.
To me it definitely (and still) is 'A perfect circle - imagine'.
They managed, to completely change the meaning of the song without changing the lyrics.
They just used different instruments and altered the background and voila, imagine became a totally depressive and 'bad' song.

Oh, and I totally messed up with my favourite song...
It can't be anything else but Led Zeppelin - Stairway to heaven.
Lost in Space... jetzt, gleich, haben will, NEEEEEED
