I do remember seeing something about the creator feeling very peeved off that it was stolen, and the thieves were charging money for it, so he released his own free version.
Will try and find the thread on OG about this, and post the link.

The game mentioned by eMTe,
Mario Forever is different from the one that I mentioned on OG,
Mario & Luigi. Both are freeware. There are many Mario clones out there. Mario Forever is created using Multimedia Fusion while Mario & Luigi is created using Turbo Pacal.
For Mario Forever, long ago I've only tried a little but haven't long played long enough to see what errors it has.
Game creation softwares made by the clickteam (Klick N Play, The Games Factory & Multimedia Fusion) are user friendly, with drag and drop interface and no programming knowledge is required to use it. Years back, I love using their software to create games. However, the cons of their software is that the end created product has a huge file size many times larger than a game written using a programming language. Another problem is that to use the software or play the game created by the software, one's PC need to have a certain amount of memory (RAM) and certain dlls that come with the software. I have ever given friends some things that I created or tried on another PC and found such error messages occurring. Conclusion: I love using The Clickteam software for game creation

but the created game may not be compatible with a number of PCs due to hardware requirement.

Thus, I would not be surprised if anyone would find error messages popping up when playing games created by using the clickteam software.
