Enemy Nations

Post by eMTe »

The development of the Hyperspace-Drive triggers a gold rush-alike colonization attempt by Earth governments, only to find that habitable (the game takes these as Earth-like) planets are either homeworlds for other sapient species, or colonies of early-evolved species.

Years of build-up and exploration bears fruit: a habitable, rich and lush world with no sentient race is found. However, almost every race intends to colonize it, and soon a a full-scale galactic war will erupt. To solve the bloodshed, the sapient races agree to a competition.

Every race would dispatch a rocket ship with a pre-determined size, mass and equipment, stocked with materials, personnel and equipment to create a city analogous of modern Earth technology and, infrastructure. Then without interruption from outer space, the base-cities would engage in conflict, with the victor being granted the ownership of the planet. Of course, it is your duty to ensure a new world for your species to claim.

above from wikipedia

Game had usually more than positive reviews and was praised for attention to details and focusing on strategy and economics rather than pure action.

Got it. But it doesn't work :(
Once i get into the main menu, it doesn't respond to anything i click on. It worked fine the first time, but the second time the menu freezes.
I tried looking for some help in the readmes and manual. I also tried looking for some kind of forum online, but couldn't find anything.

Edit: I tried putting a post in the Windward Reports forum

Triple post.

I actually got it working, by setting it to compatibility mode for Windows 95. But it's still a lot quirky, since the music is lagging, and you shouldn't change much in the settings for it not to work again.
When it went wrong i deleted the enations.ini file in the windows folder. Then it defaulted back to the original settings.

Edit: Forget what i said. It only worked for a few minutes, then the game froze again.

Edit 2: I say, unless there some kind of patch available, i would see this as a no-go, for me.

What's wrong with it? Sometimes it's really surprising that something was completed succesfully using Windows... :)

"Error: the operation completed successfully" That's a good one.

Reminds me of the error message you can get on windows startup "no keyboard available. Press F11 to continue" :)

But anyway, i don't know how to fix it. Maybe it's just a crappy program.

I installed EN, but now it wants me to put CD in drive. But there's no file that can be run with DAEMON Tools. And I cant find spare CD. Guess this one must wait or I'll find some trick to run it in web.

Youl'll have to make an ISO image yourself out of the contents of the download, and then mount it. ISO images can be compiled with the freeware program CD Burner XP.

I finally got it working too, and just as I succeded I ran into the same issue as DV. Worked fine the first time -except that the colors were so limited that I couldn't read a single button in the game. That made it quite hard to maneuver. :)
And when I tried doing something about it, all I got was a frozen menu.

I suggest we move this game to the technical problems thread, or else set it as 'not accepted'

Might be a good idea. Has anyone been able to run it without problems?

Moved. Not this thread, the #ekhm# thread.
