Homage to Pitfall with ambient sounds and retro graphics. Very short demo, 8 stages in total planned for final version.

Developer: Aloan Moreira

I like the style, and absolutely loved the original games, Pitfall II on C64 was the first game I ever finished. The website seems to be down, is there anywhere we can get the demo?

Looks like the project is dead. January's update is from January indeed, but afair it's 2008. So we should not expect much.

Shame, the game looks great and is very relaxing to play, though it has some minor glitches though and the distance between checkpoints is often frustratingly long. Ahwell.

I wrote a mail to Aloan Moreira and asked if the game is still in development. I hope to get an answer soon.

I got an answer and have happy news for you. Aloan is not only still developing the game by creating new levels, he is also still improving the old levels to make the game even more enjoyable.

Sad news: Only the first four levels will be for free. You will have to purchase the game to get the other four.

Here are some of the ideas he has for the game:

"Here, let me show you an exclusive look at the ideas I told you I had written for the fun part of the game's development: some ideas are doable while others I still don't know if it would be possible.

level ideas:
Working on:
- hunt and smooth all sideway collision
- crocodile pools (make one in last part of 2nd level)
need later:
- moving platforms
- platforms that U can jump from underneath
- see what can you borrow from smurfs!
- do intercrossing animation effect (tree foliage)
- new game elements in levels to hold players' interest
- hidden passages
- include puzzles and riddles
- new interesting levels (that differentiate)
- original sound effects? mmm think about it
- stuff falling from the sky or trees
- On a screen 2 thinfs fall down 1 in midle goes up (spine fish)
- 2 bats flying in circles (jump rope style),
- Catch the baloon to fly (Like pitfall II)
- falling lava rocks
- acid rain
- lighting bolts
- bee attack
- change sky to dawn for bats,
- more fruit variety,
- more flora variety,
- animals that match the location or environment
advanced:
- a pick axe for digging treasures or secret passages and other surprises.
- flashlight and dynamite, to discover secret areas!
- submersible tree barks (jump up in timing to not get caught)
- movable stone walls to climb hard to get places"

That's really good news.

I have no issue with paying for the rest of the game if the first half turns out good.

Aloan Moreira informed me about another update:

Hi! I'm pleased to anounce another update:

This update is so important because it deals with the game's graphics and
with helping our vision.

Now, our eyes will rest and not hurt from the older "too colorful graphics"

I have changed most (still working on getting all the elements to be desaturated)
of the game's color to a more organic less bright tone.

For this I had to switch the game from it's primary 256 color mode to a 16 million color mode.
This will also enable all this much color to work with, which is of course "very nice".
So enjoy the nicer looks... see U in the next update!

And I got another mail from Aloan Moreira. It seems the game changed a lot (mostly because of legal issues) and it is now called "Akeneui". Unfortunately it is going to be a commercial game. Here's the a part of the mail:

http://www.aloanmoreira.com/videogameEN.html

the above link if the official homepage of the game Cliffall which is now called
"Akeneui" because of copyright issues and the game plot has changed for the same reason.
But it's still got the Pitfall feel to it! It's a pitfall game in disguise...
Please update your page with the new link.. thanks..

And if you like to review the game on your page, let me know and I will send you a special dedicated full 7 levels version with a level select feature so you can take the pictures and show them to the crowd.. Cheers! the game is finalized and may be out of beta! only thing missing is original music composed by me.

Here are some good news:

Plans changed again. The game is finally called "Cliffall" and it is available as a freeware full version now (containing 7 levels):

So I think we can close this thread and open a new one in the freeware forum... :)
