Slouching Towards Bedlam

Post by eMTe »

Enter a steampunk adventure set in a London that might have been. The year is 1885. Bedlam Hospital still stands in Moorsfield, a decaying shell used to house the poor and the hopeless. Steam-driven mechanical wonders roam the streets. Gear-wheeled analytical engines spin out reams of thought onto punched paper tapes.

And in the darkness - in the alleys and the side shops - hide secrets.

Slouching Towards Bedlam is a highly-praised interactive fiction game that won the first place in the 2003 Interactive Fiction Competition. It is a collaboration between Daniel Ravipinto and Star Foster. Slouching Towards Bedlam was finalist for eight 2003 XYZZY Awards, winning four: Best Game, Best Setting, Best Story, and Best Individual NPC (for the protagonist's cybernetic assistant, Triage). The game takes place in a steampunk Victorian era setting. Its title is inspired by a line from The Second Coming, a well-known poem by W.B. Yeats.

To run game you need Z-Code interpreter, there's plenty of them, but since Peccable recommends Gargoyle I recommend it too:

I cannot seem to get a hold of the developer through the website, so if anyone has any idea how to get a hold of him please let us know...
