Future Pinball

Post by Pater Alf »

"Future Pinball" is not really a Pinball game, but an excellent tool to create your own Pinball table.

But if you don't have the patience to do so or don't want to mess around with the editor, then there are hundreds of downloadable tables on the homepage.

You can also find a tutorial for building your own table on the homepage that makes it a lot easier to get things started.

Developer: Christopher Leathley

Download: http://futurepinball.com/
Or at CWF: http://www.curlysworldoffreeware.com/tools/view/359

Download size: 19.1 MB

Year: 2007

Status: We can host it (EULA)...

P.S.: Screenshots are "borrowed" from the official site (as I was unabled to make some myself)...

I tried playing one of the already made tables, and I cant seem to get it to start. It simply shows me the table, and alot of swiping text...

I'm trying to find out why this one was for me, but my memory is leaking. :P

Because in another thread you said that we have threads for minesweeper-like games (Acidbomb) and Solitaire games, so we should have a Pinball game as well...

This is more a game creation tool, than a game itself, just like RPGMaker. RPGMaker has been used to make a lot of the games we have on the side.
But then again, the thought of having to look at every single pinball table and rate it for itself, would seem a bit out of place.
So i'm a bit confused about this one.

Pick a few tables that you think you might like, and play with it.

That's what I am fixing to do.

/me goes to download!

I downloaded this a while ago, since I like to build stuff of my own. It was quite hard to get started without tutorial and the interface felt quite tacky. So getting into it was too big step for me. And on top of everything there are several camera angles when playing the game, but none of them is what would you see if you would play an actual game. It's like you are either a midget or a giant. It's very confusing.

A proper pinball game, that focuses on realism. I can't find anything bad to say about the gameplay, and neither something specially good. It plays like a pnball game should, without any riff-raff, maybe because it's intended to be very realistic. The ability to make your own pinball tables gives this game a big plus, even though it takes a bit of time getting into.

My laptop doesn't like this too much. Might require more than the 1.0 GHz P3 with 512 MB PC133 RAM I got.

I also parted out my 2.66 GHz P4 desktop and am replacing it with a P3 1.2 GHz system, so it probably won't run too much better on that either.

So my questions stands... How do you actually get to play a table...? I can make tables, and I can look at tables, but there is no ball-launching and no gameplay... Please help.

When you load a table into the editor, you can press F5 to play, and there's a table launcher you can get by pressing F4, but i've had experience with the game not responding if you don't have the table loaded before you launch it.

Ok. Now I got as far as having a table to play and having it loaded, and launched.
Here are some keys to get things started.
Press 5 a number of times to put in coins, and then press 1 to start the game. After this press and hold Enter to fire the ball. Now use your SHIFT keys to control the flippers.

The editor is certainly the best part here. It's not easy to use, but I'm pretty sure that if you know what to do, you can as well recreate every pinball table that was ever made as well as create brilliant new ones.

I'm afraid that for most people the editor is a bit too complicated. But in that case there are hundreds of pinball tables made by other users that you can download and play. Not all of them have the same quality, but many of them are very, very good.
