Broken Sword 2.5

Post by Tank »

Finally. After 8 years of development, the day has come! MindFactory has finally released their tribute game Broken Sword 2.5.
I - as a fan of the first two games - was looking very forward to this game and downloaded it today. I just took a break from playing it for 4+ hours. Well, if you like the original games, you'll love this one.
It has the same great humour, and the same look and feel of the original games. It's like meeting friends after a few years.

The game is currently hosted on a few mirrors, so you can pick yours before it might be hosted here. It is available in English and German language. I can't tell you anything about the english version, since I played the german one, but well, very well done.

Character movement is waaay too slow.

As for puzzles I dont know yet, but they are too easy so far. This evening will be crucial - either I get stump or...

But graphics is gorgeous of course. ;)

Tank said it before: Playing this game is like meeting old friends again after a long time!

Graphics, music and story keep the spirit of the original game. Only the puzzles are much easier as they were back then (or at least I didn't remember them being so easy).

Just one minor flaw about this game: Voice acting (which is great) and music are much too hushed in many places. I have to turn the volume of my monitor really loud to understand what George Stobbart is saying.

I dont like this game. Projects that look astounding during development tend to be overhyped and BS 2.5 is the case. Lovely cartoon graphics and brilliant voice acting cant cover overall boredom and lack of depth. If you look for puzzles go search another adventure game, because you wont find them here. It's beautiful, long cartoon with quite entertaining story, but as a game if fails on all fields.

It's very purty, but that's the end of that... It feels like "Let's take all the characters and locations from Broken Sword, mix them up and write something implausible." Good effort from fans, but the result is not a very interesting adventure game. I contribute this to poor puzzles, no real idea for a plot, characters having cameo appearances merely because they were in the original game, and below average dialogue. No comment on the voice acting.

It's still incredibly purty though.

No comment like in "It was bad, so no comment about it!" or like in "It was only in german, so I'm not sure about the quality."???

It was in German, so I turned it off at the first chance I got.

Ok, then I can tell you that the voice acting was in fact very good. They had the original speakers of the first two "Broken Sword" games. It could have been louder in some places and you could tell that it was recorded on different days in some scenes, but after all it was very professional.

I can understand spoken German (I can tell one word from another and understand the meaning of simplier sentences) and as much as I dont like this game I was amazed how professional voice acting was. Sure, there were weak moments, but for a freeware game the quality was incredibly high.
