Lemmings
A decent remake of one of the best and most popular games of all times. Help the Lemmings to survive and guide them safely to the exit of each level, using their different abilities to overcome all the obstacles that get in your way.
"Lemmings" includes the original level design of the games "Lemmings" and "Oh No! More Lemmings". Very nice to see these cute fellows again!
Developer: Geoffrey Storey
Download: http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/show ... hp?t=10878
(Well now you can find the game at CWF as well:
http://www.curlysworldoffreeware.com/games/view/424
Both Lemmings and Lemmins files are availbale from that page.)
Download size: 12 MB (For Lemmings, other version is smaller).
Year: 2008
Status: Freeware; have to check if we can host it...

I tried this out with my GF's laptop since I am a big fan of the original lemmings game
However the fonts did not show properly, and most of the characters were shown as odd blinking white-yellow boxses.. It was terribly irritating when I could not see the amount of each type of lemms available at the beginning of the next level.
Another slight annoyance was small inaccurasy in controls. Sometimes it was really hard to get the basher digging in to the wall because action had to be clicked way before the lemm actually hit to the wall.
If we will get the permission to host this, then I'll vote 3 due to the technical problems. If the texts and controls were working perfectly, it would get 5 from me. (Hopefully there'll be correction release available at some point).

My obsession network related programs and protocols has created these:
epb - Ethernet Packet generator (and more)
nsn - Network status monitoring tool for linux
thongs-sniffer - network sniffing and traffic analyzing tool + ethernet packet crafter for linux (derived from nibbles)
nibbles - UDP print listener + something else
Foreverlasting projects:

I played the game for the last two days (in fact I spent most of my freetime with it even if I wanted to validate some other games) and everything worked fine for me. There were no technical issues except the fact that the game crashed twice (but I played many hours) which wasn't much of a problem as there is an autosave function.
But I wrote Geoffrey and he gave us permission to host "Lemmings" and told me there is an updated version (but didn't tell me when it was released - so I'm not sure if you have it already):

Hope this will work out fine for you as I think this game is as good as remakes can get. Great way to meet an old classic again!

I only had like 5 minutes to look at it, but had no issues either. Downloaded the latest version.
It's great to have this to play with again.

Hi, sorry there is a technical problem at the moment, it seems some graphic cards don't like it. I will resolve this issue.
in the meantime go back down memory lane with space invaders

Happy Birthday friday Geoffrey.
I just tried it out again and once more I get MAV errors, which annoys me since I didn't get them when I play it back a while ago...

It seems these MAV errors appear when a lemming leaves the level where he isn't supposed to do so (for example when you dig through the bottom of a level). Try to avoid this and everything should be fine...
When you look at the RetroRemakes forum you can see that Geoffrey Storey knows about the bug and tries to get rid of it. I'm not sure if it is still there in the latest version.

I am still awaiting a solution to this one. The last guy who posted on the dev-forum has exact same issue as me, and he posted it on june 19th and is still awaiting a reply from Geoff. DAmn summer that drags people away from their computers....

It seems the game was renamed to "Lemmins". Probably because of copyright issues...
There is also a new version out. But I can't recommend it to anyone. When I try to play it I get the "memory access violation" right from the start (after choosing "Play Level"). In the old version it only occured when one of my lemmings dug itself out of the screen where it wasn't supposed to do so. So if you want to try the new version, you better keep the old version somewhere on your HDD as well.

Yes, it's the version from the first link that gave me "memory access violation" right from the beginning.
So consider yourself lucky if it works fine for you, because except of this bug this game is simply one of the best remakes ever. Enjoy it!

Not sure about remake quality (yet), but having compy aimed at casual tasks and old-fashioned games is really an advantage at times...
Really, I dont even know what graphics card I have... Never cared for.
Next question. Savegames. Is state saved automatically? When I choose difficulty level, dirtree shows only first level from each section. Will I be able to play from last level I didnt finish next time I run Lems? I feel I wont.
