Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden
If you're looking for a RPGMaker game without dragons, knights, heroes and a princess in need for help, "Barley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden" might be the right game for you. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic era where basketball is strictly forbidden an it is so weird that it's almost incredible. Here's what the developer wrote about it:
"The Great B-Ball Purge of 2041, a day so painful to some that it is referred to only as the "B-Ballnacht". Thousands upon thousands of the world's greatest ballers were massacred in a swath of violence and sports bigotry as the game was outlawed worldwide. The reason: the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful its mere existence threatens the balance of chaos and order. Among the few ballers and fans that survived the basketball genocide was Charles Barkley, the man capable of performing the "Verboten Jam"...
Flash forward 12 years to the post-cyberpocalyptic ruins of Neo New York, 2053. A Chaos Dunk rocks the island of Manhattan, killing 15 million. When the finger is put on the aging Charles Barkley, he must evade the capture of the B-Ball Removal Department, led by former friend and baller Michael Jordan, and disappear into the dangerous underground of the post-cyberpocalypse to clear his name and find out the mysterious truth behind the Chaos Dunk. Joined by allies along the way, including his son Hoopz, Barkley must face the dangers of a life he thought he gave up a long time ago and discover the secrets behind the terrorist organization B.L.O.O.D.M.O.S.E.S."
Game has nice graphics, an amazing atmospheric soundtrack and an interesting combat mode (where you use your basketball to perfom attacks). So if you'r interested in exceptional RPGs, you shouldn't hesitate to download it...

This game has some of the most amazing and funniest boss monsters I ever saw in a RPG. Yesterday night I had to fight the evil "Ghost Dad" (which looked like Bill Cosby).
Just half an hour later there was a big blob of sugar called "Das Fructose Ungeheuer" which attacked my characters with an overdose of sugar and made the whole party suffer from diabetes...
Simply great!

You certainly did. I think you'd laugh yourself silly playing that. It's an old Legend adventure/RPG where you control a superhero group in post-nuclear Manhattan and fight such memorable enemies as Albino Rhinos, Albino Dinos and Albino Winos. Your heroes are equally strange, fx Madame Pepperoni, who has the power to see inside pizza boxes without opening them. Or Robomop, who can clean almost any mess.
You'd dig it the most. Just check this awesome screenshot, with which I will hijack this thread. Methinks it's abandonware (Legend games are, aren't they?), so you can probably find it. You owe it to yourself to play this. I feel like playing it again myself, actually...
Btw, this game looks pretty awesome. (See, I'm On Topic)

This game (Barkley) did insane things to my comp. Which I'll describe tomorrow. I should have known that it's getting bad when first glitches occurred and savegame "pump" started to behave oddly. In the end, I had to restart the comp. I'll check this game only once more, this time in window mode, since author warns about fullscreen mode causing trouble. If I'll have to restart once again I'll skip this one. Health of my PC is more important.

Whenever I am stuck in a game I want to validate I always go find a walkthrough to get further, and if there isn't one, then I write that down and save the info for when I have time to do a walkthough if the game later on.

If I remember right you have to go to the church and talk to the priest (Larry Bird). After that you can return to your appartment and the story goes on...Scythe wrote:PA (or Chroelle), help me out here! What to do at the start of the game? I went and picked up the medicine, now what? Talked to everybody, went everywhere. Nothing happening...
And I think I was stuck here as well, because I missed the entrance of the church.

To sum up what happened. Savegame pump worked only once, when I tried to save game again in the same pump I could see only short screen flickering. When I returned to title screen and tried to load the game I couldnt. So I quitted. My Firefox started behaving oddly - I could click with mouse all search boxes (together with google which was opened before I had run the game), but comp stopped answering the keyboard (browser + desktop, keyboard just stopped working). What's more, if I clicked any FF element with left button, "save as" window popped up, so I couldnt even close it. Pressing alt+f4 or ctrl-alt-del resulted with "save as" window too. I decided to restart since my browser (whole desktop in fact) was unusable.

Well, the whole premise of the game is exceedingly strange. I mean, a game that takes the Space Jam movie as canon for its world is off to a rocky start from the beginning. After that, it just gets weirder.
Lots of graphics from RPGMaker, but at least a science fiction-y game, not a fantasy one. Lots of text. Lots and lots of text. 74% of it completely irrelevant to the game (and even to the setting). It's sickening to talk to NPCs who just go on and on about nothing. And don't even get me started on the save points.
Combat has lots of nice ideas to make things a little different, but most are poorly executed. In fact, that's my description of the entire game: Lots of good ideas, lots of poor execution. For a world as full of fun ideas as this, it's a damn shame that it ends up being a dungeon crawl, fx.
The best thing is probably the mobs, which are pretty funny. Probably more funny if you have any kind of relation to b-ball. I guess that goes for the entire game. Me, I have no interest in b-ball, and couldn't hardly follow most of the name dropping, even.
What I'm getting at is that this game is pretty average, but has some outstanding ideas that unfortunately are badly executed. It may appeal a lot more to anybody with a special interest in b-ball or the Space Jam movie. Possibly.
Go play Super Hero League of Hoboken. It's better, it's funnier, it's abandonware.

Roc Togotm would do as a perfect track title for Autechre's album.
As a matter of fact ...or, TMRoTnn: EfN7 would also.

Kickstarter project sarted and they made their goal ($35.000) within the first 24 hours. Seems I'm not the only one who loved the first game and can't wait to see the sequel.
