Lost in the Nightmare

Post by Pater Alf »

"Lost in the Nightmare" is a horror adventure made with the AGS engine by a turkish developer. It's about a private detective named Burak Güney who goes to a small town to find three university students who are missed after they camped in the nearby woods...

Well, I think we all know what happens to teenage campers when they are alone in the woods, so expect horror, blood and gore.

Here are some more informations from the developer:

"Lost In The Nightmare is a horror/adventure game made with Adventure Game Studio (AGS). I wanted it to look like an interactive adventure, more than an ordinary point&click adventure game. So don’t expect so many puzzles like in the other adventure games.

And also the game is not recommended for the people under age 18, because of the heavy content of the violence. (Though the game was made by someone 17 years old :P )"

Hello,
I'm the developer of Lost in he Nighmare and really happy to see my game here :)

News:
The deluxe version of this game, "Lost in the Nightmare: 'Save Our Souls' " is in development and will be released soon.
Its topic on AGS Forums is http://new.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php?topic=32264.0 where you can see some new screenshots and dother progress.

And I was using non-original .ogg music tracks by some famous bands (like Rammstein, Opeth) for the soundtrack of the game, but it seems like I should remove them and put another music for them. This could create porblems for the ones who would want to host my game. But I'm still unwilling to do this, because those musics really increased the atmosphere of the game (I can even claim Rammstein's 'Rammstein' went better with my game more than Lost Highway). Maybe I should release two versions of the game, I am still unsure.

Lost in the nightmare looks pretty damn good - judging the screenshots here. Do you happend to know if there's any hope about running this on linux? (I believe I have never tested games made with AGS on linux - I generally dislike adventures and most of the RPGs. (It's my weakness, not game creators though ;) )

But this seems to be worth a try :)

I just went over and looked over the new screens, and I must say that I suspect nightmares to be frequent when playing this game. Looks awesome!

Thanks to everyone :)

To be honest, I don't know if it is possible to make an AGS game be able to run on Linux, there may be a plug-in for this. If AGS games can be converted in order to run in Linux, I will also release that Linux version.

Hi everyone again,

Lost in the Nightmare: 'Save Our Souls' is completed and ready to download!

http://new.bigbluecup.com/games.php?act ... ail&id=982
http://new.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php?topic=33387.0

But I couldn't add the Linux support. The sounds go missing when Linux codecs are used, and this game wouldn't be so enjoyable without sounds. But we are still working on it.

Well done! I'm downloading right now, and I think I'll play it when I get home from work tonight. (Finally, unfortunately, a day when I get to go home by myself - more on this elsewhere and elsewhen.)

Ugh, the tarot card puzzle is killing me here...

I like the Silent Hill atmosphere of the graphics. I'm a little sorry that the music I've heard so far is lifted from RE and SH games, but obviously original atmospheric music is not an easy thing to come by.

Good, creepy story so far, but a few problems - one with the abused English language, the other, more serious, is that some of the dialogue goes by too fast to read.

Thanks!

Yes, I think I should remove the ripped musics and replace them with original tracks. A very negative point for my game.

Guess you are right about the fast moving texts, but I thought the English had got better after the proofread.

And about the tarot puzzle;

Burak Guney, Hanged Man
Kayip Kisi, Strength
Saban Polat, Balance
Derya Efeter, Empress
Alper Taner, Hermit
Cagri Efeter, Sun

is the solution.

Interesting. I was sure Balance was one I had placed correctly. Thanks for the help! The first real puzzle and I get stuck.

I like how different the game feels, even if it's more of an interactive story, sort of like one of those old Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books (I always loved Fighting Fantasy, so I enjoy it). Going through a series of atmospheric still shots is pretty cool, and even if the graphics are somewhat washed out and deformed, it really fits the atmosphere.

Since you can click your way through the text, it wuldn't hurt to go a little slower. Sometimes, when you get three lines of text, it flashes by before you've read half of it.

Anyway, the English is far from the worst I've seen, but it is full of wrong words and oddly structured sentences. Don't feel too bad, I can make sense of almost all of it. It's just that since the game relies so much on telling its story, it's a little jarring.

Example: "It affected me so awful to remind her beautiful red hair" is pretty broken English, should be something like: "I felt so awful remembering her beautiful red hair", but like I said, I can still make sense of it.

If you want one more proofread, I'm up for it. ;) I can do a much better job than what you have right now, I promise, and I can do it quickly too; possibly over the weekend. And should you be interested in getting the game translated to Danish, I can also help you there (though you'll need some special characters, so you'll have to know how to implement those).

Another thing: The game just quit to the desktop after I was set afire. Was there supposed to be a game over screen or something? (By the way, pretty funny putting Rammstein in there. :) )

Thanks!

Yes, when we "get fired" by Yalcin Sandal in the market, we die and the game is over. I dislike "Game Over" screens.

But I was unaware of the credits line bug in http://curlysworldoffreeware.com/files/litn_213.jpg .
Credits scene for the good ending was working good and bugless for me :(

Considering some of the other freaky stuff that happens during the game, I wasn't completely sure I actually died there, and thought maybe it was simply a bug. Some note to the fact that the game is over, rather than quitting to desktop, would have cleared up the confusion. :)

Before I send this to validation (so we can host it, if it gets passing grades from three validators), I just need to ask if there'll be a better proofread version (whoever does the proofreading)? It'll surely stand a better chance of passing with clearer English, and I'd like to see it pass. :)

Actually it seems like the half of the real proofread scripts are not visible in the game due to a terrible mistake of mine! :( I think I have compiled a wrong version of the proofread text and I can't find the original one (which is full of proofread and edited in order to work successfully).

Now I am working on another full script but I can't get it to work inside the game. It will take time for me to manage it.

I apologize to everyone.
