Domain name change.

Post by Maz »

Hi dee Ho peeps!

We have decided to finally do the planned domain name change. Our new coordinates is http://curlysworldoffreeware.com/

The old curlysworldoffreeware.com still redirects to the correct location, but some cookie related login problems may emerge - sorry folks.

If you enter to the site with old URL, and login fails, please write http://curlysworldoffreeware.com/site_main.php in the address bar, and try login from that page. Thank you for your patience, and I hope you like our new home :)

Also please inform us about any non working features you'll encounter, there propably is some links and such which may cause you to log out. If you remember to report them, then it is easier for us to fix these issues :)

If I use the "Index of freeware games" thread in the freeware forum (as well as the "Games' status" thread in the GH forum) the links still link to the old adress (of course). This means when I use these links when I'm logged in, it redirects me to sites where I'm not logged in.

Is there the possibility to change that or do we have to change it per hand?

I can create a short script, which should update the links in database. But it won't happen today... I need to ask (or search the net) how to do this without causing major resource eating in host's DB engine...

I will also try to find as many of the places where I advertised the site, and change the URL so we can get a proper PAgerank on this new location again. Please remember to announce this and change it if you have written it anywhere in forum sigs.
(Oldgames, Devshed, etc...) I will try and find a complete list of places that refer to us, and that way backtrack all advertisements. :D
I will contact developers soon too and notify them of the domainchange and hope they will change their links to us. :D

It seems I cannot post using POST REPLY BUTTON. That is I can use it, but it wont post anything... I am not sure if that applies to add attachment too then...?
Is there any way that we can make it so the change in domain wont log you out?
Everytime I log in at a page at curlysworldoffreeware.com then I the counter for new posts get reset as I am redirected to a curlysworld place. Also when I use the links in GH-forum that points to a forum.connect(...)place then I am not logged in, which annoyes me quite a bit too.
When you have time to look at them then it could be cool if you knew a solution... But I can live with them until then.

I changed the links inside the games' threads that lead to the games in our database, so now they all link to the new domain (which means they link to usable download links again).

Changed the links of all 140 games per hand. So you can decide yourself if I was bored tonight...

BTW: The links on all the game info pages that should lead to the threads where the games can be discussed all lead to the old domain. So if you use them you can't post any replies (because you are not logged in anymore). Can anyone do something about it?

Great work once more. Is the thread up to date? (A little off topic)

Yes it is. Might be that one or two games are missing, because we forgot about them, but al in all it should be up to date...

I wrote a mail to Penguin Development (TAGAP) and they changed our links in their download and link section.

I am considering mailing every developer telling them that we are hosting their game at this particular link and make sure they know it is a new link. I hope that will give us some attention.
I hope I will forget to email the one particualr developer of Teen-agent. He still doesn't know that we are already hosting it. He was supposed to get some ad in return.
I can of course always offer him a 125x125 sponsor banner in the bottom until we figure something else out.

I had a couple of hours to kill at work, so I changed all links in Game Hunters forum to reflect new domain (including closed threads). Also, a few other places I found.

Amazing work actually. Thanks a lot Scythe. I was getting annoyed at pressing the link and then correcting the URL.

I have changed the URL in most of the advertising links I know of. This means that there should only be links that others made in their sigs at different forums now that point to the old URL. (Oh and the one on Connect-webdesign where the button to go to the forum is - I wont change that since it helps my company to have it there and looks as if it is connected to the website - as in "This is what a phpBB2forum can look like with a lot of modifications".)

Oh and on a small sidenote. We are advertised on Project-wonderful even mor now, and on stumbleupon, and more developers have agreed to put a link to us on their sites.
I will write what they wrote me in a while.
