How many projects are you doing?

Post by Scythe »

So, as I was spending my quality work hours thinking (it's what you do a lot of when running the train), I got to consider just how much stuff I had gotten myself into. Without further ado, I ask the question of you:

How many crazy things (serious or not) have you gotten hip (neck) deep into simultaneously?

For myself, I can mention the following I'm doing at the moment:

-Game validation for this place.
-Wiki on OG.
-Watching seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager (I'm in season 5...)
-Playing an ever-increasing load of console RPGs.
-Creating Legacy of Blades freeware game.
-Writing two novels, one in Danish and one in English (will never see print)
-Playing an online storytelling role-playing game.
-Doing a Shadowfist collectible card game (CCG) home page.
-Collecting over 30 different CCGs with active trading.
-Playing at least 5 different CCGs as regularly as possible. Managing 1-2.
-Creating a virtual expansion for the Spellfire CCG.
-Working 5-6 days a week.

Sometimes I wonder how I manage basic things, like sleeping and eating... but obviously I don't do all of those in a single day (eating and sleeping, I mean, of course :p )

3. Trying to develop this site.
4. Learning openGL (writing pong game with C, might be changed to c++ though)
5. Learning Linux kernel space programming.
6. Learning Linux interrupts + more about real time systems programming.

16 desperately thinking what to get to my GF as bDay present... ^_^; (I do not have much of time anymore...)

Hey, this is great! I thought I had lots of projects going on and no time to do them, but actually I have less than ten projects (and no time to do them).

1. Work (and stuff related to my future work)
2. School project & I should be reading to couple of exams too...
3. Getting myself back on track with my sport hobby. Before I used to go and practice about 3-4 times per week. Nowadays I go about once a week, if even that.
4. Renovation in my home. Almost done, but I still need to attach this one thing to roof.
5. Designing my own RPG. I'm still just gathering ideas.
6. Creating a Flash-game. This haven't progressed at all.
7. Couple of Wesnoth campaigns. Not enough time and interest to polish them.
8. Creating a demo album. Being lazy and needing an inspiration.
9. Other minor jobs like cleaning, relationship tasks, fixing my bike, upgrading my computer, buying clothes etc.

I pretty sure I have forgotten something, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought...

I have things going on for many years now, but here's the list that I can think of at the moment:

1. Trying to finish losing the rest of my weight and get into shape (I got about 30lbs left...the end is near!!). :)
2. Trying to finish Final Fantasy XII
3. Writing 3 English novels, 1 horror with zombies, 1 comedic fantasy and 1 coming of age story (this one has taken about 9 years)...
4. teaching myself guitar (again)
5. Finding time to begin filming the movie I wrote in the winter.
6. Trying to find a career I can be happy with.
7. Validating games for CWF
8. Finding a girl who is not psycho
9. designing an RPG engine in DirectX
10. planning for my retirement (because I can't wait)

- Taking care of my two favourite girls.
Well the last one seems to have taken over the remainder of the list.
Baptism got cancelled, I stopped drawing and trying to find an illustrator for a while. Also PHP and JAvascript learning was shelved and .
I am still advertising this site, playing and validating games, and trying to be some sort of admin for this site.
I have been on hold trying to make stuff on my workplace homepage, but I have been developing stuff for Connect-webdesign.dk.
I havent written a single word in my books, though I have been considering new plots for my childrens books.
I have been buying DVS's from the Danish auctionssite, but not selling anything as I dont have the time for wrapping and sending stuff, and setting up auctions. You have to think these things over before you just throw out an auction. The right setup can get you up to 5 dollars more a movie. This means something if you are selling 5-10 movies.
Well all in all I turned the pace up and the projects down, but now it seems I can get to dedicate myself more to some of the forgotten projects again. I am really looking forward to finding time to write again. But I have promised myself I wont do so until the GH's have caught up with game submission, so both are on the first page. We are getting there. :D

So current projects are:
- Taking care of my girls
- Returning to job
- Planning baptism next summer (And possibly wedding - Tanja doesn't know).
- Playing games and validating in here
- Developing stuff for Connect-webdesign (and family)
- Finding a house (but the market is still very fragile).
- Eventually learning PHP and Javascript again.

Update:
Scythe wrote:For myself, I can mention the following I'm doing at the moment:

-Game validation for this place. Still ongoing, on and off
-Wiki on OG. Never got very far on this one :(
-Watching seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager I finished! Yay!
-Playing an ever-increasing load of console RPGs. Finished a bunch, started a bunch of new ones
-Creating Legacy of Blades freeware game. RPGMaker 2K hates me :(
-Writing two novels, one in Danish and one in English Been standing still all summer :(
-Playing an online storytelling role-playing game. Still going strong, with an average two posts per week...
-Doing a Shadowfist collectible card game (CCG) home page. Got stuck, as usual
-Collecting over 30 different CCGs with active trading. Making very good progress
-Playing at least 5 different CCGs as regularly as possible. Managing 1-2. Now added a board game to the load, but doing very well here
-Creating a virtual expansion for the Spellfire CCG. Gave up on it :(
-Working 5-6 days a week. Haven't gotten myself fired so far
So about half of the projects were realistic, it seems. At least I haven't added any new ones to the mix.

I got some more work and now I'm doing my Master Thesis(sort of Diploma Work in my school), so I'm extremely busy because I need to get my studies done as soon as possible. I also got my ass back to my hobby, so I'm out of spare time. I sent one song to my guitarist friend and I'm waiting for him to do something (and started to work on a new piece on the weekend). The relationship thingy is now over, so that's done but it also means a new project...

The rest of my projects haven't gone anywhere. I have also promised to do a new style for this site and draw some cartoons to Chrølle's children's book. Unfortunately I cannot do this due the lack of time and it takes at least a half of year before I can dream of doing those things. Sorry...

Oh...
I forgot bout the STRESSED OUT THREAD.
Here is my list as I remember it currently.

- Clean up forum
- Add feedback and suggestions to the bugtracker
- Set up a bugtracker for my workplace
- Clean up my work-homepage.
- Teach colleague how to maintain the workplace website.
- Make newsletter for work
- Have meetings with 18 kids' parents
- Make homepage for a customer at Connect-webdesign
- Make a new underdepartment of connect-webdesign about keeping photos safe.
- Repairing kiddis stroller
- Decide wether to set the apartement for sale or not, since we are once again looking for houses, and now we can afford some nicer ones (prices dropped - we didn't get richer).
- Write a report on how we plan to improve the technological side of my workplace. My responsibility.
- Write a chapter in a report about information technology and the Danish public school.
- Talk to specialists about the kids I am primarily in charge of.
- Have two meetings with parents-board on the school I work for.
- Write lyrics for two songs for a theater.
- Write music for one of the songs.
- Combine the script-pieces we have for the theatre and do a rewrite.
- Get the car fixed (the brakes are doing weird things... NOT NICE)

And these things I have to do BEFORE APRIL 10TH where I go on leave for two months...
But lets face it... After April 10th and until mid-August I am working 5 weeks, on leave for two months, and then have 3 weeks off, where I am going to Tuscany for one of the weeks. So dont feel too sorry for me.. Things for the next 4 months are just pilled up right now instead of spread out...

- Clean up forum - ALMOST THERE.
- Add feedback and suggestions to the bugtracker - DID THAT
- Set up a bugtracker for my workplace - NOPE BUT HOPEFULLY WILL AT SOME POINT.
- Clean up my work-homepage. DID THAT
- Teach colleague how to maintain the workplace website. DID THAT. NOW HE IS LEAVING...
- Make newsletter for work. STILL DOING THAT ONCE A MONTH.
- Have meetings with 18 kids' parents DID THAT AND GETTING READY AGAIN FOR THIS YEARS TALKS.
- Make homepage for a customer at Connect-webdesign. DID THAT AND GOT A NEW PROJECT.
- Make a new underdepartment of connect-webdesign about keeping photos safe. NEVER GOT THAT FAR WITH THIS. DAMN YOU FACEBOOK FOR TAKING MY IDEAS AND SCREWING THEM OVER
- Repairing kiddis stroller - GOT THAT DONE.
- Decide wether to set the apartement for sale or not, since we are once again looking for houses, and now we can afford some nicer ones (prices dropped - we didn't get richer). WE DID AND THE PRICE DROPPED ON IT SO EVERYTHING CHANGED. NO SALE YET.
- Write a report on how we plan to improve the technological side of my workplace. My responsibility. DID THAT, AND RIGHT AFTER THAT EVERYTHING CHANGED SO IT WAS FOR NOTHING I DID IT.
- Write a chapter in a report about information technology and the Danish public school. DID THAT, AND GOT PUBLISHED.
- Talk to specialists about the kids I am primarily in charge of. ALWAYS DOES THAT AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH.
- Have two meetings with parents-board on the school I work for. DID THAT, WITH SOME SUCCES.
- Write lyrics for two songs for a theater. DID THAT, NOW WRITING TWO MORE.
- Write music for one of the songs. ONCE AGAIN I AM DOING THIS TOO.
- Combine the script-pieces we have for the theatre and do a rewrite. AND TAKE CARE OF THE ENTIRE PLAY THIS YEAR AS THE FORMERLY THEATRERESPONSIBLE PERSON LEFT.
- Get the car fixed (the brakes are doing weird things... NOT NICE) GOT THAT DONE; AND NOW THEY ARE ACTING UP AGAIN.
It seems I got a lot of it done and also re-involved myself in it again.
Here are the new projects:
- Making webchanges for another customer at connect-webdesign.dk
- Making an online freeware magazine...
- Checking licenses.
- Writing the walkthrough for Sunset over Imdahl.
- Writing interviews with lots of developers - I have 10 new ones lined up.
- Making a work-project about internet safety for kids.
- Making a project for UNICEF as our town got to be the Danish UNICEF town of 2009. Its about excercise, and charity and kids. :)
- Making additions to the work-website about internet safety for kids, and the UNICEF-thing.
- Fitting our works website to the school website so we can port it easily. This nags me as we have a website that other institutions look up to, and now I have to adapt and bow down (and take it up the...)
- MAking wedding-plans. Thankfully we are almost done with everything.
- Buying my outfit for the wedding.
- Have Annas birthday part for family on March 21st, and for friends with kids March 29th.
- Start up the runnning season. Ran for the first time this year yesterday.

So I have my work cut out for me, BUT I have made myself some systems that really makes me work more efficient.
I sit down sunday and plan the week, and then I have a lot of time to myself at work monday morning, where I can get a lot of things done.

Here's an update after about 1.5 years.

1. I'm still busy at work
2. I graduated, but now I should start my postgraduate studies.
3. Still need to get back to sport. Haven't been there since summer, but I have been working out a little.
4. Still need to attach that thing to roof
5. Still gathering ideas, but I have done some designing for other games.
6. I abandoned the Flash game idea, but I'm coding with AS3 at the work so I have gotten a LOT better with flash.
7. Since I found RPGmaker I haven't touched the Wesnoth for ages.
8. Haven't really done much music lately, but I started to play guitar last spring.
9. Still need to clean and get a new GF, I bough a new bike, but it needs some fixing too. I got myself a new hard disk, but it got broken few months ago and I haven't done anything about it since. Now I have clothes, but I should toss away the older ones.
