welcome to the movie theatre a place to talk about movies new and old.

What are your top 10 films and why, what would you highly reccomend people to go see or even stay away from. So if its a new movie you just can't wait to see or a not so new movie you want to discuss come on in and take a seat

Well top 10 is pretty hard but I can give you a random listing of ten of the greatest movies I ever watched:

1: Dogma
2: Finding Forrester
3: Blinkende Lygter (Danish movie)
4: LOTR-trilogy (will count them as one movie, as they would take up 3 spots otherwise

5: Forrest Gump (Read the book to by Winston Groom)
6: Top Gun (Me and my best friends fav. Know pretty much all the lines)
7: Hero (for the use of colour in the movie)
8: As good as it gets (even though I am getting tired of it after watching it around 10-12 times)
9: f*** Åmål (Swedish movie - but only for one viewing - further viewings spoils it)
10: Sin city (Great movie - loved the FX)

I will propably add a couple more movies as soon as I remember them.

There are many films I like but from the ones I've seen recently, I pretty much recommend Crash because it has a great interaction betwenn the characters, the plot is very well builtwith a few subtle twists and it addresses several big problems in the US related with the tensions between diferent comunities, particulary racism

Crash is my number one movie I want to see. I have heard so many great things about it. I think I'm gonna buy it just because it seems that it won't be a bad investment

01: Equilibrium (Cubic, European title)
02: Matrix 1
03: Star Wars 1-6
04: LOTR 1-3
05: Dune
06: Highlander 1-2
07: eXistenZ
08: Starship Troopers 1
09: Harry Potter 1-4
10: X-Men 1+2

These are only some of my favs....

okay here is my attempt at a list of 10 great movies...like Chroelle I don't think I could make a top 10 greatest films. But here are some great ones

1. clueless (eventhough it is the most airheaded film I have seen I still love it and have watched it far too many times)

2.Near Dark (The best vampire film ever)

3. Donnie darko (a film with a scary bunny, what more do you need)

4. An extremly goofie movie (okay this is simply because it was the first film me and my boyfriend saw together when I was looking after my sister)

5.American History X (see it if you haven't)

6.Fight Club (wow!)

7. both bill and ted films (my boyfriend would hate me if I didn't mention these)

8.Carefree (the best fred and ginger film)

9. TopHat (anothe great fred and ginger film)

10. singing in the rain (ok I'll admit it I love a good musical)

11. holiday inn (yes I know I only said 10 but 1 more never hurt anyone)

Bleh... I hate top tens...

Instead I'll recommend you my favourite movie "Walkabout", which surely would be in first place of my top ten if I liked them.

The story tells us about young girl and her little brother, their father takes them to the desert and, explaining nothing, tries to kill them, but fails. Then he commits suicide. Now both children can count only on themselves...and maybe on someone more...

Words are almost inexistent in this movie, it is series of beautifully photographed landscapes full of hard to explain symbols. The atmosphere is similar to "Picnic at Hanging Rock", but ambiguity of majority of the scenes makes it even more mysterious. However there's a deep meaning behind this whole festival of beauty and mystery. Truly great film with high rewatchibility value. A must watch!

There are probably greater films in the history, but treat this one as my personal top hundred.

I heard it was a dark themed film so I didn't want to watch. If you like dark themed film, then The Butterfly Effect is one such film. The Director's Cut ending was dark too and I had the shocked after feeling after watching it. It's more of a time-travel thing but with terrible consequences. Another dark-themed but sci-fiction film is Dark City.

From your list, I have only watched Equilibrium, Matrix & Star Wars 1-6, Starship Troopers. No doubt about it The Matrix & Star Wars are good popular films.

I suppose you watch the Dune sequel, think it was children of the Dune or something. Haven't watch them, might have to consider watching.

Have not thought of my top ten list. I like science fiction & supense.
Some science fiction shows that I like a lot are:
Paycheck, The Thirteenth Floor, V (old movie & TV series)

Other nice shows are The Treasure Hunter (adventure), The Myth (romance), The Game (suspense), Toy Story (animation), The Incredibles (Animation)

When I think of the top 10 then I might post again.

It is quite a dark film. As for the butterfly effect, me and my boyfriend rented the normal version of it and the ending to that was quite nice. Then I was channel flicking and saw that the directors cut was on so I sat and watched it and was so shocked at the ending. My boyfriend didn't believe me so I hunted around and baught it secondhand for a £3 just so I could prove to him that it did end that way.

V (old movie & TV series)

I think I recall something about this show. Is it called "V for Victory" perhaps and takes place during, I think, an alieninvasion?

If that is it, then I was totally glued to the TV everytime it was on. Great series. Didn't know there were movies too....

I remember watching V the TV series, well part of it I never saw the end of it though so never found out what happened. Although I am not a fan of si-fi normally, this wasn't that bad

Yes it is, V is for Victory. I'll always remember that. Long ago I watched it on TV. Actually when they showed on TV, they showed the movies (V: The Original Miniseries & V: The Final Battle) first before continuing with the TV series. The Final battle ends with Diana escaping in a spaceship. The TV series continues from the resistance join other resistence from other parts of the world to battle against the aliens when the aliens return again.

That pretty much sums it up, as you can see I love darkish movies, especially by Kubrick, Tarantino, Aronofsky, Burton, Fincher, Lynch and Scorsese, and especially starring Christian Bale, Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp, John Cleese, Jennifer Connelly and Gary Oldman

The director's cut ending was the first one I watch and was still stunned a few minutes after the movie ended. Then later I read on the internet that the version I watched was not the original. Had to get the DVD by Infinite Film to watch the theaterical version (with directors cut ending version option). By the way in case you did not know. Besides the alternate ending to the happy theaterical version i.e. director cut ending, there are minor alternate endings. There are 2 minor alternate ending for the happy theaterical version starting from the part where he sees the girl again many years later after exiting the building.

I haven't watched any of the special features on butterfly effect yet. I really should as normally if I have seen the film before and the have special features its the first thing I watch. various different ending I'm going to have to see if mine has them on. Thanks for mentioning it

Can't think of more right now, but counting single movies we already passed 10 anyway

I only just saw American Psycho a few months ago; couldn't believe I hadn't heard of it before. =O

As for Pulp Fiction, well, I need only remind you of that job we did over at BHL's =D

Still have to see Reservoir Dogs. That film seems to have some sort of jinx; every time I try to see it, I'm either interrupted or have to leave the house <_<

As for my list, it's here: YMDB

The films in the top ten are by no means "exciting" like XXX

, but they're films with excellent scipts and very good replayability values; you learn something new every time you see them. Movies in the 10-20 are more mainstream and are easier to watch for me when I just want to watch a movie and not have to think. Films like Pulp Fiction, Falling Down, and Dr Strangelove get honourable mentions.

and all the other movies of these kind

with a bit of dark, gothic, seductive flavor... so highly recommended
