You can make some separate meters - f.e. one for reviews/games submissions and one for playing games... Dont know what for, but it is some idea (bad, I know ). Maybe just for bigger fun.

Nice summary eMTe But about the seperate meter... don't you think it would add up to too much confusion?

My intention with this idea was not to imitate either the BD or the OG system but rather to make a brand new thing, but sumarizing like eMTe posted is a nice way to better express myself...

1. eithre by receaving pts by creating someting, a Casino, a game, an interesting thread etc... atributed by the ADM/MODs
2. by beeing a popular, helpful and interesting member... atributed by other users
3. by entering contests on the games at the site (hard idea DL tryed it once but there is time to grow and evolve, we haven't got to do eaverything now just set up strong bases

But eMTe's idea of a meter is excelent

All this should have a backgroung on BD we clearly live on a medievial world much like the usual RPG, here, acording to the ranks and forum names we could try building up the sense of the real working world where our labour building up the site would be compensated with gowing economical satus just for fun

That is dead on, but i don't get how... The part about economical status is very good, only I don't know what for??? Economical status would be good, but when you get all these gold and silvers.... What do you use them for...
I have aired the idea of making a subforum that you could buy your way into, but I don't know what would be so interesting that people would love to get into it for....
Also I have come up with people getting their own subforum of their choice on here, when they hit a certain mark, but that would lead to quite a lot of subforums, unless we make it in a simple manner.... (I think I can do that...)
Also there is the choice to buy an email-adress from this place with points, (like a Prem. Membership thing from OG.) but that actually started to take away a lot of things that could be used to make Prem.Membership on here to cover financial issues.

Also we need to figure out...
What can be done so that people would like to stay here...
And from there:
What can be done so that they would like to become Premium members.

I'm not saying that we need to get a new member every hour on this forum like OG almost does, but if we can make dedicated members, and get at least 5 a week, then it would be great.

About the point system it seamed to me like something everbody said was unimportant but it was really important as people celebrated their 1500th point or sometinh at the bar...

I don't know how you'd like the forum to evolve but it seemed to me like the forum games were somthing that united the comunity or at least gave us sometinh to talk about in the forums

About Premium membership never undertood that very well at OG but I think it shouldn't be related with the points system.

But my sugestion is to get a pts system up and running, ideas will flow and new thing will be done but a strong basis will be developed, I don't know if you've seen the evolution on BD but DL really set up the Silvers system (essential on a RPG game ) and new Ideas kept apearing everytime

I think it would actually be a good idea to seperate Premium memberships from points, as we pretty much need the money from Premium members to pay for the site. I'm thinking of buying a larger webhotel so that we can host more games.
But this will cost the site about 100 kr (approx: 14,25 $ a month) maybe more. It's not a total budget-breaker but 100/month is 1200/year and that is what I have to pay at once for the upgrade to take place)
I was thinking of maybe offering premium memberships at a low rate here in the beginning. Something like 2$ a year, but I need to know if people would be interested in this. And what features they would like if they were to become premium members...

One thing you could maybe (I don't know anything about the techy side of this) do is things like a fancy way to dress up their user names in their posts like coloured, itallics ect. Bigger avatar size, an extra line in the user title, or just the ability to change it to what they want (like on OG). Combinations of the above.

One thing I don't think should be considered (and I don't know if it has already been mentioned or not in this thread) is special game dowloads for premium members. It smacks of asking people to pay for games because they have to pay to access them, which is something I feel a freeware (or abandonware for that matter) site should avoid. That part of premium membership on OG always made me feel a bit a bit funny about it.

Points system is at a halt and so is premium Membership until we get the site up and going.
I would however like to get some suggestions for funding.
I am thinking that Premium Membership will be some funding, and ads some too, and I am considering making a feaute available where people can get like 50 MB of their own to do with what they please. The price will be cheap, so it might be possible to get this going, but this will also help CWF grow as income from this will be used to buy additional space for games...
Are there any suggestions on this, and other features that could be offered for either money or Premiums... Sounds kind of greedy when I put it like this, but this is because I would like to get my expenses covered...
Please let me know if you have any ideas...
I am not sure yet wether the last mentioned will be possible.

I just wrote this as an answer to a question Raillo wrote that I missed and decided to post it in the proper place

Well Premium membership is not actually paying for the games... You are paying for use of the forum and certain forum features so far. This means that we can go around the license thingy.
Some huge games we might give to Premium Members only, but that is not certain yet. And that of course means checking the status of the license, and/or going with the games that we got particular permission to host, and/or something else....

I don't think we will ever charge for downloads of certain games, since the whole concept is FREE GAMES. But we will however accept donations for hosting and such but this is all up to people themselves...
We maybe set some sort of points limitation to who can downloads which games. (Example) People with less than 10 posts cannot download a game of 150 MB's from us, but they are fully able to get the games below 10 Megs. This way we will prevent leeching...
But the more members that actually use the forum, the bigger we get, and the easier it will be to get advertisement for the site. This also means that more cash will flow in to help pay for the hosting...
Also the more members that come in here, the more members it will attract and the more regulars, and we all know that regulars are more likely to pay for Premium Membership.
I have always said that the money that comes into CWF will go to cover my expenses for hosting and I will keep it that way, so if we ever will make a surplus then we will get more space to host more games.
That is also the reason why I have asked people to become Premium Members, and at what cost they would? We have some time ago set a price at 14$ But I am not sure if this price is fitting. I would rather have more PM's and less money flow in, as the more PM's there are, the more there will come. Know what I mean?
So if I was to set a price at 10$ a year then maybe we could cover the expenses. That is not a whole lot to most people. And it is less than a dollar a month. But it will take around 8-10 people to pay for the rather small solution we have now that way. And we would like to upgrade to the bigger solution... Which is 111$ a year. This would require 12 to cover the expenses. And from then on it is only upgrading and keeping the Premiums...
That will leave us with aprox 1500 MB worth of download space. We have found that there is a problem with hosting games in more than the dedicated server. (The one with the Database) so that leaves us with about 3 gigs less than we thought we had...

This post makes me think that I should write it somewhere else than in GH business.... :Rolleyes:

It seems a lot of my thoughts are in here, so please comment on this once more. I would like to know if any of you changed your mind on matters

I can say that the idea of Premium Membership has been dropped by me, at least for the reasons discussed.
I have decided to cover the expenses myself of the site (and hopefully get as much covered as possible by ads). I can also say that Project Wonderful is partly chosen as an adsystem because it is the choice of indie-developers of all sorts, and is not some huge monetary adsystem like adbrite or others.
