I've liked the demo of Mechanized Assault and eXploration (aka M.A.X.) when it's been released.

Mechanized Assault and eXploration is a good old Turn Based Real Time Strategy game.

You'll notice -by clicking on the links @ MobyGames- that this game is no more available anywhere, not even @ the second hand shops in Paris.

I'll try to grab as much infos as I can retrieve in my CDROMs (PC Mag and similar).
And if you're interested in the demo, then I'll drop it there BTW. (if I can put again my hands on it)
