One thing I wish I knew how to

I just had this idea after making my PHP guide thread.

If there was one thing in the whole world you wish you knew how to do, what would that be? And maybe what is blocking you from learning it (time, skills, lack of guides)?

I always wanted to know how to code stuff - Games, webpages, stuff like that.
I have decided that I want to learn PHP now. I even think about taking up CSS after that and maybe even continue down that line.

I have always used programs like Frontpage, to do stuff for me. I am always using crappy programs that makes it easy, and yet so impossible to do stuff. You are so limited by those programs that it is hard to get new ideas implemented, because they dont come with the package.

So now my very late new years resolution is to learn PHP, because my work has put off time for me to sit down with it, it is finally becoming possible.

What is your ONE THING? (Try to keep with one thing as we can always talk about other stuff later) Your one thing can be anything (just not any "I wish I knew the lotto numbers every time" please - they get boring....)

Here's what I learned about this ditty, don't ever ask a guy how to pick up women. One guy doesn't know anymore than the next, he just does what works for him.

Ask women how to pick up women. Generally the advice they give is about a billion times more useful than the crud any guy can dish out.

Actually it was doublesided, as it could both be the part about asking a woman for help and also the last advice:

Aside from the female thing, everything I want to know how to do, I've learned it. Wanted to know how to repair computers? I took a class, then tinkered with some old retired office computers. Wanted to know carpentry? I bought some lumber and learned the hard way. Metalworking? Took some beat up computer cases and bought the tools. You get the idea.

I learn best hands on, rather than by some book myself, so I tend to experiment till I'm good at something.

I'm naturally good at anything I bother taking the time to learn, but I have a short attention span for things that don't tickle me the right way. So I guess I wish I knew how to stick to things that don't really interest me.

I agree with Railio...I'm the same way...everything I wish I knew how to do I do by trial\error, and sheer ignorance...but there is always stuff that I wish I knew how to do, but I have no access to the tools needed...

Like learning how to conjure thunder and lightening from my finger tips...that would be cool...

Ok, finally figured out something that I really wish I knew how to do...

I'd like to learn how to fold fitted sheets.

Does anyone know how to do this, besides having them end up as a ball?

I have the same problem, and my dad has the same problem. It's one of those guy things I think.

And it is not a problem isolated to the North American continent either

I simply hate them. If I see any of them coming out of the drier I will instantly contact the girlfriend and ask her to help me. They do not fold well in my presence...

it's rather embarrasing when I have women over and they go in my linen closet for a towel and there's these giant balls of fitted sheets...then they look at me like, "you don't know how to fold these?!?"

I think it is actually the classic "corner to corner" method. Men just dont have the dexterity to do it. We fumble... we have to admit it... Fine motor skills is not a man thing unless we are talking about motor skills as in automobiles...

It's weird. I can build very small model parts, and do fine assemblywork, but try asking me to fold sheets! LOL

I have now decided to spend those mornings, that I cant sit by the computer because my two girls are asleep in the same room, sitting in the kitchen drawing, since it is a great way to spend some time, and also because I really want to get better at drawing.

I still haven't forgotten my PHP-project. I should have time for it tomorrow morning a work to start my studies in a proper manner.
