Internet auctions

I recently started using a Danish internet auction site, and have tried to find a good niche where you can earn a little extra on the side having some fun.

I have so far decided to keep in the lines of childrens books and films (all ages). It is a tough market to get into and alot of my bids get overrun by people in the last minute.

Do you use internet auctions and how much. What are you specialising in or trying to specialise in?

I use ebay from time to time to complete my comic book collection. There are still many books from the 70th and 80th I need (not to talk about the 50th and 60th, but I don´t think I can ever afford these)...

I use ebay a lot.

I'm a collector of Pocher FIAT models from the 60's 70's in 1/13. Since they have never been sold but were given as a gift when buying a FIAT, they're quite rare and overpriced but sometimes I manage to get one

Also, I have decided to not buy a new computer for a few years and becasue the newer games are starting to be too sophisticated for my old notebook, I started to get a lot of good pc-games from the years 2004 and 2005. Most of the time amazon marketplace is the even better choice, I got most of the games for less than 2 €

I also noticed that you can get a lot of good games from just one year ago in auctions, and I have reached a point in my life where I do not care if I play the latest games the moment they it the streets.
I also get movies this way, and some of them are actually brand new (as in never used or opened).

yep, that's the point. for example I hadn't played Black Mirror when it came out, I bought it for 3 Euros and I was very happy with it. Also, the latest games that I was waiting for have not reached expectations (Gothic III, STALKER...)

I use eBay a lot. For collectible card games, console games, Asian movies... I guess I'm winning at the very least one auction a week. But you need to know your limit and stick to it. Chances are, unless you're looking at something extremely rare, it'll come up for auction again. Eventually you'll get it at the price you're willing to pay. As for extremely rare stuff, you should have a limit there too, but I'm just not as good at keeping to that, knowing it might be a one in a lifetime chance.

I think the best way to earn money on internet auctions, is to sell stuff that you allready have... For example - Where I work (Silvan) We have some auctions sometimes, with last seasons lawn movers, garden furniture, ect.. Lots of stuff! You can be lucky to find a lot of brand new stuff there for almost no money at all! Some of my co-workers sometimes buys stuff there, just so sell it again on eBay or QXL or something like that... And I think they make a lot of easy money that way

Anyways, it's just a suggestion... And there are other places than Silvan where you can do things like that

Since I am afraid of internet money transfers, I don't use any of the auction sites.
Only once I put my photo camera on auction in a greek auction site and it was never taken

I use QXL quite alot, and I've bought many different things :

My EU-moped, my computer, several football shirts, collector cards, player miniatures, and other football related raraties, books, DVD movies, toys, a bicycle, clothes, gardening tools, a digital camera and my watches.

I've tried my best only to buy thing that I could see IRL before I payed, as I've heard, that a return process can be rather tricky.

I've also considered selling things to, but it's to time consuming for the time being.

I just made an auction concerning us.

I have tried putting advertisement on CWF up. I have made an ok minimum bid (which will allow us to cut away those annoying adbrite ads) and I have made an INSTANT PURCHASE price that will cover our entire hosting-price and a little more.
I hope that it will generate some bids

Well as far as auctions, I use eBay, I buy mostly laptops that need this or that for parts, fix them up, upgrade them, and resell them. Sometimes I buy motherboard and CPUs as well, and I've gotten some decent deals on RAM before.

I also buy antique model trains, and 78 RPM records.

I sell computer parts that have a niche market, like vintage IBM or Apple parts, both of which have a collector following.

I buy records off of eBay and other such sties.

My onyl rpoblem si that the bands i like are all "rare cult" items. Nobody wants them, so there aren;t very many of the records . . but the peopkle whop ahev them don;t want to give them up, either.

So the cheapest i've evr foudn oen of ym favourite abnds online is 250$.

Luckily, the local record store still has a good stock, adn still receives records every now and then, somehow. If i ever get a double of a record, i'll make at least a 200$ profit, i know that.

WOW! Even Glenn Miller's famous 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' (The first record to sell a million copies) doesn't go for that much. And the records I am talking about were made before WWII, so they are difficult to ship. Luckily, I found a seller who live only 40 miles away, and he is willing to deliver them to me by hand, as long as he gets to see my model railroad.

They sodl a million copies, no wodner the price isn;lt that high.

The more copies availible, and the less people who want a copy, the less the record is worth.

Here, i ahev a relatively high amoutn of people wanting the records,a dn soemtimes, a mere hundred of the records ever made . . .

it doesn;t huret that my first searches are always for virgin vinyl.

Not to be a topic digging type, but has anyone used iOffer? I have an account on there and have bought one item, a Socket 462 motherboard. Good transaction.

I have an online store there, but it doesn't seem too active with computer stuff.
