A little bit about ourselves

Post by spanek »

I am in a mood for new threads :D

Ok, in this thread I would like all of us to write a little bit about us, to get to know one another better. Since I started it, I will go first.

My real name is Nektarios Spanos I am 28 years old and live in Athens Greece. I am the youngest kid in the family and I have two sisters way older than me. I studied Computer Sciences in Wales, Cardiff where I got my Bsc in Multimedia Computing and Msc in Information Security & Computer Crime.
My first job was as a software developer in a Bank in 2003 but it didn't last long (1,5 year). Then I went to Accenture with higher pay and better projects but the working conditions sucked. So I left again after 1,5 year and went to the company I am now which is an outsourcing company and provides me with all I wanted.

Happy times of my life : The birth of all four of my nephews and nieces and the day that I bought my first car. :)
Sad times of my life : The day I lost my father in a car accident when I was 16. I miss him ever since :(

Good idea for a thread, Spanny...

Well...

My name is Sebastian Kirk, and I live in Denmark in our capital Copenhagen... As I'm writing this I'm 17 years old, but I'll be 18 in a month... Have waited a loong time for that  (Well, almost 18 years...)
I live home with my mom, dad and my dog :Bearhug:... I have a 23-year old sister too, but she doesn't live home anymore...
Right now, I'm in high school (secondairy school? I don't know what it's called..), and my major subjects are spanish, english and political and social issues (about the society.. We have a very easy word for it in danish, which is Samfundsfag.. Maybe some of the other danes here, can translate it better...?) When I'm not in school, I work in Silvan, which is a construction market, where I'm (roughly translated  ) do-it-yourself-council... So I learn much about plumming ect. there, which might be quite usefull later on... :D:D
What I'll be doing later on in my life, I don't know...

I listen to a lot of rock/hard rock/punk/heavy ect., and I play guitar and piano...

The best decision I ever made, was propably to start on a continuation school.... I miss it so much allready :(

And I can't come up with any particular sad things, that has happened to me...

Just a little bit. I'm Jacob, internationally known as Jake. Scythe is close enough to my last name to be a good, unique handle.

Born in Greenland, 1973, an only child. Elementary school and my high school exam taken in Greenland (but two years of high school in Denmark). My parents live there still.

Moved to my own apartment in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1992. Studied 9½ years (yeah, that's a lot - I wasn't studying all the time) of chemistry and environmental biology at Roskilde University Center.

Degrees gathering dust as I moved through odd jobs, eventually ending up a train driver - some would call that an engineer, but really, an electrical train run by computers; I'm an operator if anything. A good job if you want freedom in setting your work schedule and don't mind working holidays. Best thing about it: When you're done, you're done. You don't bring your work home with you.

My 1,001 hobbies keep me occupied and happy most of the time.

The truly sad times of my life are too personal to share on an open forum.

SCYTHE! You operate locomotives? COOOOOOOOOOL!

I've operated a couple museum locomotives from time to time when doing some volunteer work, notably an ex-US Army 44 tonner, and a Fairbanks Morse H-10-44 (They booted me off that assignment as I was too hard on the reverser, the large Westinghouse axle motors you could 'plug' and go from full forward to full reverse without stopping first. THAT was fun!)

Anyway, on topic, my real name is Steve, I live in Northern Illinois, look at my profile for the city.

I'm a PC technician for the Waukegan Police Dept. Plus I run a computer business on the side as well.

My happy memories are far between, but most have to do with my model railroad. I think I created one today by seeing an ALL metal and wood passenger train run for the first time in probably a couple decades. NO plastic anywhere on the train. It was a tough restoration, but it is running finally. :)

Sad memories, too many to count.

Old trains never die. They just sit in ruin and wait until the day they are taken in by a skilled craftsman and rebuilt to their former glory.

More what you'd call subway trains rather than locomotives, so not that cool. ;) I have a license for three different trains, only one of which is currently in use.

Ok now I feel I have the time to answer this one properly.

My real name is Christian Toft, known as Chroelle in general by friends and family alike. Pronounced like Kroll with a sound like "...eh" in the end.

I live with my girlfriend Tanja in a rather large apartement that I modified totally for us to live in. I am very proud of that. We live in Nærum (Naerum) which is 15 kilometers outsde the nation capital Copenhagen.
I work as a social educator and do it for the fun of it, and not the money.
I didn't know very much about the internet until I joined as a member of Oldgames.nu little over 5-6 years ago. I really started to enjoy using the internet then, and after quitting along with the rest of the site's top-level crew, I really felt a hole in my soul where forum activity used to be. I missed a lot of friends, and ended up making this forum. Well now I am beginning to talk about the forum... Back to me...

I have always wanted to be either a journalist or a social educator. When my sister picked journalism I decided to go the other way.
I come from an ok wealthy family, but was always told to become what I wanted to be, and not let money decide for me. I listened.
I have a very good sense of finances, and can make a buck last. :D
I am never shy to talk of emotions or compliment people (something I see as a good point in me).
In Denmark we have a fictional law called Janteloven (It says soemthing like - Dont believe you are worth more than the rest of us.) I try to break that one at least once a day. I show off, whenever I feel I have somthing to show off. That is also why I compliment people so much and try to tell them that they should be even more proud of themselves...

Ok back to me...

I was born 1st of September 1978 in the capitals hospital and moved from the capital when I was 1. Wethen moved to Jutland (The large peninsula sticking out of northern Germany) and lived there until the age of 9. We then moved to the city I reside in now, and my parents got divorced when I was 11.
My mom got a new husband with two kids I call my sister and brother, and my dad got a new wife with a son older than me. My so called bigger brother. My original sister is the oldest of the 5 of us. I call myself the middle child.
My sister got a son last year, who unfortunately has some form of deficiency with his blood that weakens his immune defense alot. He has had something like 5-6 days without a fever since December 1st.

I am expecting a girl anytime now myself. My first child, and we have been trying for long so that one is gonna be loved!

Ok, good and bad memories:
Bad ones: Being told, that:
- We would have difficulties getting pregnant.
- My nephew had the immune system defeciency.
- When I was told that my ex-girlfriend died of the cancer I thought was cured. We fought that cancer together for a long while. She was a very sad girl with a hard life. (Not too many good memories.)

Good ones: (You should always end on a good note)
- Lots and lots of good memories from my childhood in Jutland. Climbing in trees and playing stickball on the road, and making lemonadestands and such...
- Falling a sleep with my god-daughter in my arms some 7 years ago now...
- Being told that I was going to become a dad. I have a good memory of me sitting on a ladder under the ceiling on the 15th hour scrabing paint off of the ceiling with a big dumb grin because I was doing this for my girls.

I think that was all for now :D
