Arkoss

Post by eMTe »

Evil Necromancer has taken control over the land of Arkoss. Now it is your goal to choose one of four six heroes and beat him. Each hero has different skills which affect gameplay.

It looks really familiar, like I played it at some time, but can't quite remember... I'd better have a look at it.

Something's rotten about the download. I'm getting a 268K file that won't run for a game that's supposed to be 110MB.

Hmm... Strange. I downloaded Arkoss from there...

Did you maybe download it previously? Maybe it has sth to do with personal data you have to leave or with ip...? Because I have similar problems (I hav Arkoss installed already). But what means this 268Kb file I dont know... :?

edit:
Ohhh...and this is only Arkoss.exe file. Strange indeed.

If you have the same problems, it's probably on site something's changed. If I've had Arkoss before, it's not on this comp.

I really dont get the download either, but since it is seven years since it was put up for download then maybe something has changed which lead to it not being downloable anymore from there.

I have tried finding somewhere where you can dowload it, but I think they hang on tightly to their rights for hosting the game.

Thanks, PA, I somehow missed this, but now it's time to try this baby out (again?).

I really like this game, but I have to offer a few commentaries:

There's not really any music, but it took me several hours to realize that! Now that's good use of ambient sound.

Melee seems worthless, while tech seems overpowered. I suppose that lets you choose your difficulty through the character you select, but if that was the intention, it would have been nice to know before starting.

It's a shame there's so little feedback in the game itself, so you don't have any idea what the damage range of a given weapon is, how much you can carry, etc.

There's a somewhat nasty bug that causes all monsters to freeze. They still take damage, though they can't actually die while this bug is active. To get rid of it, save and reload. All monsters that had taken lethal damage will now instantly die, so it's half a cheat as well.

To drop items, right click on them in your inventory (very useful when you're encumbered with useless armor).
