Vivid Conceptions

Post by eMTe »

From the makers of Acidbomb, Sandbox of God and Liquisity.

Vivid Conceptions is a platform game unlike anything we've done before. In it, you play the role of the last surviving Bantam on earth, who is a creature that predated even the dinosaurs but could barely fit on the tip of a needle. It's your job to journey across the underground in search of the last refuge on the planet...

Along the way you will be able to upgrade your Bantam, from creating a shield to thwart enemies to using cerebral control that will allow you to move objects where you need them to go. You will even be able to asexually reproduce, and control the offspring that can do even more than the older Bantam.

Bantams are also able to dream with amazing accuracy, almost as if they're training in their sleep for the reality they awake in. And you'll get to control them in that as well, which include increasingly harder and harder platforming bits.

Half puzzle, half platformer. Don't miss it.

Developer: Vertigo Games

There's certainly atmosphere here, but this puzzle platformer comes with sluggish controls and nothing groundbreakingly new, so it's a little hard to pick this over the many other puzzle platformers out there. It does have nice music, if you're into that scene though.

There are some things that I like about this game, for example the music, some of the graphical effects and the idea of deciding which upgrade you want to take (I think this is something new in the platform genre). But this feature would have made more sense if it would be possible to beat the levels in different ways (depending on the upgrade you chose).

But there are also some things that I don't like about "Vivid Conceptions":

1. The controls are sluggish. It´s hard to really control the jumps of the small creature and more then once I had to start again, because I missed...

2. The telekinesis often didn´t work the way it should. Might be because of the sluggish controls as well...

I think regarding the gameplay "VertigoGames" can do much better. They've proven it more than once with games like "Acidbomb", "Sandbox of God" or "Ore No Ryomi 2"...
