Well Brøndby didn't make the cup. They only won 1-0 and should have won 3-0 to move on. So the two favourites for the cup trophy is out.
Today they play eachother in the league. IF FCK wins they are only one victory from winning the season. IF Brøndby wins they are still challengers, but almost only in theory.
My dad once again managed to get tickets to the game, even though he is the one who is the least interested in football in our family.

A bit late to post this, but I know Pitkin and Parvini know their old school footballers better than I do, so here goes:
Just over a week ago, an association for ex-footballers, EFPA, held their first football match in my hometown. Here are the rosters; I didn't recognise anyone on the Dutch side, but the UEFA team took me back to USA '94 and Euro '96. Good times.
After halftime, my man Polster came in for Kirsten. Just minutes into the second half, he took a Karpin pass and went on a solo run, going past three players, to fire a bullet into the net and make it 2-0. After this, the game slowly started to die down, though one could easily see that the Dutch side hardly got a sniff as the UEFA backline was damn solid. Towards the end of the 70 minute match, DR Dave Watson headed in the 3rd goal (another Goikoetxea assist) and brought the game to an end.
The attendance was a sorry 700-ish, but seeing some of these guys for what may be the last time was worth a Wednesday evening =D

Right after the first 10 minutes had gone, I realised that this was not going to be a match for the faint of heart - as good as these guys still are, they're really shadows of their former selfs. The only man who really impressed was Karpin, who was all over the field at times. He even covered for Sousa and Goikoetxea a few times. Predictably, the internationals scored first thanks to a Goikoetxea to Kirsten play (13th min).EFPA team:

From the Dutch team only Jan Heintze and Arnold Scholten ring any bells rightaway, the former (born in Denmark, if I'm not mistaking him for someone else) having played in Bayern Leverkusen somewhere in the 1990s and the latter featuring for Ajax Amsterdam in the mid-90s.
In the EFPA team I'm ashamed to admit I do not recognize one player, the Pole Dziekanowski... don't have any idea where he might've played. J-P Papin deserves a special mention from that squad; I signed him to my Sensible World of Soccer team as soon as possible every time I played.
The Rangers (no comment on the team) legend McCoist and the Croat in Italy Boban, along with the football nomad (well, part-time nomad) Gheorghe Popescu also deserve a special mention. Ulf Kirsten on the other hand... I consider him one of the signs of German football getting weaker by the end of 1990s (I suppose it's not his fault entirely), and have never really thought much of him.

Ulf Kirsten was my favourite player in the 90s! And why do you "consider him one of the signs of German football getting weaker by the end of 1990s" (quote) dear Pitkin?? Kirsten was Germany's top striker (most goals in the Bundesliga/First Division) two or three years in a row.
Good to hear he returned with a goal for his team....

I have to support Tank here
Kirsten is the all-time-number 5 in the Bundesliga eternal goalscoring list with 181 goals for Leverkusen and the biggest goalscoarer of the 90's, a kind of German Shearer.
Unfortunately in the national team, he had Völler and Klinsmann just in front of him and when they retired, he was too old to perform well on international terms.

Fortunately I did include the parentheses in my comment on Ulf Kirsten, or I'd be in deep... ahem, excrement. I'm sorry, but not following the Bundesliga properly, I was aware of Kirsten's achievements only on paper, and as you said, in the national team there were the two gentlemen before him always and compared to them or to my third all-time favourite German Littbarski, I just never got to see Kirsten's qualities apart from his 'old days'.
It wasn't my intention to play down Ulf Kirsten in any way. He's just competing against my personal favourites of that time, and is bound to suffer because of that, sorry.

No problem we're here to dicuss and if someone throws in controversial things, it's refreshing for the threadPitkin wrote:Fortunately I did include the parentheses in my comment on Ulf Kirsten, or I'd be in deep... ahem, excrement...

BtW, Arnold Scholten,
Didn't he score in the CL final penalty shootout 1996, when Juve beat Ajax?

After checking the final result, yes, I can confirm Scholten did score in penalty shootout. The match itself finished 1-1 after extra time, with the Finn Jari Litmanen scoring Ajax's 1-1 levelling goal. Litmanen was also the only Ajax player in addition to Scholten scoring in the shootout.
edit: Here's where I checked it from: http://www.zanziball.com/en/9/5a2e.html

Well, I was pretty sure that it was Jan Heintze who was on the list, but wasn't sure if he had made the team. HE has been one of the most reliable players on the DK national team even in his old age. His last few months were not that good though, but that was never his testament.
I think he was 42 when he stopped playing the national team...

Nice a football thread... humm German League... I really only know it from the Football managing games (coached Wolfsburg once
), and there aren't many Portuguese Players there!
Me Be Great Supporter of S.C. Braga a small team that is going to the UEFA Cup for the third consecutive time, maybe we'll meet your team Tank
I went to 13 of the 16 games home and even saw one away game (Live) and many more on TV! Let me post here a picture of the Stadium, a true masterpice!

Yep! It was built for the Euro 2004, on the top of an old stone extractions place (you can see it on the left), it has the singularity of only having lateral places, very good but a bit cold!
It brought great luck to us, since moving there my team has reached once a 5th and twice the 4th place, better is pretty hard since Benfica, Porto and Sporting have a supirior structure!
